My ‘religious’ beliefs fall somewhere between my mother’s and my Aunt Samantha’s.
I’m not a practicing Catholic like my mother. In fact, I’m not sure I even believe in a God as portrayed by Christianity. I do like the Catholic rituals – the candle lighting and the incense, stuff like that. Those kinds of things move me from mundane everyday thinking into a more spiritual mind frame. They relax and comfort me.
I’m not a practicing Pagan either like my Aunt Samantha. I’m not inclined to believe in chakras, auras, Reiki, Crystals, Reincarnation and other New Age ideas on those lines. But, some of the ideas do appeal to me like Astrology for instance. It’s documented that the moon affects the tides, so why shouldn’t the planets affect us too? Not to mention that my natal astrological chart is almost ‘dead on’! That’s a kind of proof to me.
I’m also leaving judgement open on Tarot cards, Spirits, and Ghosts. I do love the idea of Ghosts.
I believe that there is some kind of ’greater force’ that we can tap into for various personal reasons. I believe that religions are man-made, but that they provide people with tools which can be used to tap into that ’greater force’. It’s not the name you call it, but the belief in the ‘greater force’ that allows people to tap into and to use it.
Helping my Aunt out with her Metaphysical Bookstore is definitely a boon for learning about and exploring new ideas. Everyday I learn something new. Another job perk besides free food and coffee - knowledge.
