I had the day off from the bookstore so Elizabeth and I drove to the big City in her convertible. It was exhilarating flying down the interstate with the top down, opera playing full blast on the radio, and the wind blowing my hair.
We spent the first half of the day shopping for clothes, then we stopped at a little Italian restaurant for lunch. I had the vegetable lasagna which was ‘to die for’. I love Ricotta cheese and it was loaded with it.
A carnival had set up their rides in the mall’s parking lot, so we walked through after lunch and checked out a couple of the rides. Elizabeth won a stuffed dog at one of those games where you have to knock the bottles down with a softball. She used to pitch softball in high school so it only took her a couple of tries to win the dog.
On our way home, we stopped at a new Starbucks. Unlike their regular stores, this one was in a building that used to be a Burger King. They have added a large, covered patio outside. At the far end of the patio is a brick wall with a fireplace built into it. I’ve never seen anything like that, but I will be sure to check it out in the Fall. Won’t that be interesting to be surrounded by cool, Fall air but feel the heat coming off an outdoor fireplace.
It was a wonderful day.
